Hello and welcome to Cardiff Open Art School’s Spring programme 2010! Our popular evening courses will start running again from 19th April 2010, and our exciting new range of weekend courses are available NOW for bookings!
Starting from 13th february 2010 Cardiff Open Art School is proud to offer weekend courses in a range of techniques, including Transforming Everyday Carrier Bags, Shibori (The ancient Japanese art of fabric manipulation), Hot Textiles, Book Arts, Papermaking, and Making marks: Experimenting with paint, print, drawing and collage (for beginners). See below for dates, or give us a call on 029 2020 1560 for a brochure and an enrolment form.
And as if this wasn’t enough, Cardiff Open Art School is planning two courses to take place in Venice!
In July we will hopefully be running a drawing course in what is one of the world’s most spectacular cities, renowned for its architecture as well as its art. We’ll then be running an art history course in late August, focusing on the history’s key role in the Italian Renaissance and giving you an insight into its stunning artworks in its galleries, churches and scuola. The visit will also include a trip to Torcello, the earliest occupied island with its spectacular Byzantine basilica and also hopefully to Padua to see Giotto’s fresco cycle in the Arena Chapel.
If you would like more information about these trips please contact Angie Dutton, adutton@uwic.ac.uk, 029 20416628. Look out for more information here, coming soon.

About Cardiff Open Art School
COAS is at the heart of the city’s creative community, offering courses aimed for both enjoyment and development within art and design for anyone wishing to learn new skills or extend and update existing ones.
We welcome students of all ages and abilities, including beginners. There are no entry requirements except a willingness to learn and enthusiasm for your subject.
Students come along with a range of motivations – to study for their own personal enjoyment, to build up their portfolios of work as evidence of study for applying for courses (eg Foundation courses in art and design) or to develop career related skills. Whatever your motivation, everyone receives tuition, advice and encouragement from the tutors who are practicing artists and designers, and benefits from working with a committed and enthusiastic group of students and staff.
